Underpass

How can God imagine
if he created it all?
that is the underlined question
the underlying fear of
most daily nightmares
when you're hanging on
to your last dollar bill
you ask for some change
and get nothing but
an ear full of pity
you politely give a fuck you
in return
hatred for hatred
unknown for unknown
I kicked religion in the ass
I've been my own God
for some time
now I can't imagine
and I created nothing
not even my own future
because that's the doing of
someone's past
and will ultimately become
someone's present
because of me

Great piece. Love the sense of futile self control you've created here.

Piercing words in a poem that sparkles with gunpowder, another potent write!

There's a whole lot of wisdom in this, nicely done!

A most powerful work, strikes at the core of our existence. Reminds me a bit of Kafka in it's themes.

Again, just powerful work here. Knocks you back in your seat.

Yes, being our own god really isn't all it's cracked up to be... well written and raw. :)

I've been my own God for a few years now. I can relate to this poem. It's a lovely write!

Fascinating write Anthony. You ask great questions in the poem, especially about imagination and creation. We seldom take time to ponder "God." I love the duality of this poem, man and God, contextualized in the same context. This poem will have the reader pondering your exposition for a longtime. I "always" enjoy reading your poetry, sir.

By far my favourite line is 'I kicked religion in the ass'

i love the sense of taking control of your own actions, but being willing to accept the blame.

Thoughts are deep here, Anthony and meanings sink like this morning's muddy leftovers. I had an insight once related to free will and predestination. I came to a sort of belief that being omnipotent and ubiquitous doesn't necessarily logically mean omniscient. If there truly is free will (and I know it's debatable), then there may be no such thing as predestined futures, or an entity that knows everything.

i ve always suspected you may be an O.G (omnipotent god).
shhiiiittt... why not the last dude made a right mess of it -
relaxed on the 7th day and lets face it never really did shit since...
an absentee landlord - benign dictator - abandoned in outer space...

we create our own system and your machine is working-well oiled

For me there are lots of recipes for a fine dinner--lots of religions which claim to be the road to God. I kicked religion in the ass, but that had nothing to DO with God. Religions are PEOPLE.

So that has nothing to do with your poem? OK! You give out much 'food' for thought. That is what some peeps do too much of (think) and some have forgot how! Thanks for a good one, Anthony!

What I like most about this is the interconectedness of everything as evidencd by the closing lines. Powerful read.

I love the ending lines. And the beginning ones... and the middle ones... Great write, Anthony. Passionately poignant.

Fantastic write. Love the philosophy at play here. Love the implications raised and the compare/contrast nature to such implications. Again, fantastic piece. Thanks.

Hatred for hatred- man- I'm getting to love your verse- you write the jams! Seriously- some honest and raw words here AGAIN- they always feel like they come straight from the gut. Loved how you talked about 'being you're own god for too long'- I wonder if your talking about loosing and regaining faith- a potential damage or loss that comes from a loss of faith perhaps- just feels like your asking some very serious questions of yourself in this one. Liked v much
