Above Creed

The eyes aren't the only
window to the soul
we lift d'Versity into a pot
of boiling water
let the steam fog the glass
and wipe it clear with expressions
from around the world

ink drips from the windowsill
as the sun shines through
the letters and numbers
but the vision is clear
no matter how grey the tint appears

we are all muslim christian jewish
non-denominational and so on
in a nation that breeds separation
by nature

and for some poetry is a
break from it all
like a kitten with the eyes
of a first love and its purr
was your only source
of comfort

My ode to d'Verse - a place where our differences are celebrated and appreciated. A place where we are unified through the art of poetry...

And one more thing: I've just uploaded my 1st youtube video, a reading of my poem, 'If God Made Mistakes'. View it *here* if you may. Thanks...

oh i just love the last stanza a lot anthony... and how poetry connects us no matter who we are and what we believe and from where in the world we're entering the pub

nice...i like the rather ritual feel of the opening...and how we can move beyond the labels the world has for us into this place called poetry where we are...and exist together...at peace for a moment...

Love this Anthony. I like the idea of poetry undoing the illusion of separation. Our oneness expressed in words is what dverse is all about. Thank you Anthony. I enjoyed hearing you speak your words. That was nice.

A beautiful read Anthony ~ For me poetry is a break from it all but this pub does a good job of inclusion rather than separation ~

Have a wonderful weekend ~

The diversity here is like a flash of colour in a world of grey - I love that imagery in your poem. At least for a short while we cross the barriers of separation and find comfort.

'but the vision is clear' loved your poem - perfect for the community of words, dVerse - K

... and so many accepting... great viewpoint here... maybe it's our distance that keeps us in balance

Such a wonderful poem that fits in so well to our name: dVerse. I'm so glad to get to know you, Anthony. And thanks for taking care of the windows.

purring here! A fine poem, and a treat to hear it in your voice which is getting stronger and stronger. Did you mean nation in stanza 3?

Poetry is definitely a "break from it all" for me. Nice writing.

Excellent work--poetry is both separation and a bringing together. Very nicely done!

This is lovely how we come from so many different places but, are brought together by our love for the written word in the form of poetry. I am happy and purring..

Anthony, I loved this take on "D'versity." It's true: The world tries hard to make it about who's different from whom. We strive to find commonality in writing.

As long as we don't run out of words, the yahoos lose. Amy

Poetry is indeed a universal creed that transcends that which divides us. Eloquently written, my friend.

Indeed d'Verse has been a soft spot to land for a long time. I cherish our time together my friend -- back to our meeting on twitter and with the word wizard! It's been quite a ride!

When we open our hearts and share our souls, there is no 'separation', no 'discrimination'… we become part of a larger whole, we become "one." Beautifully captured in your words, Anthony.

Every background tries the be the best and say they are above the rest, but written words can bring most anyone together indeed

What a powerful line. This is honest poetry.

Love that last stanza!

There is definitely comfort in the dVerse walls and fogged up windows.

Great imagery in that first stanza. Enjoyed!

Powerful with a sweet ending.
" in a nation that breeds separation
by nature"...sadly so true. Poetry has no boundaries...too bad the rest of the world couldn't follow that concept.
Thanks for all you do in the Pub for those of us less knowledgeable. You inspire. :)
