Metamorphosis (A Painting)

Dear heavenly father,
my mother is my number one fan and her good feelings
are my faith when I'm short on patience
you birthed me mama but when you said the
words, “This could be a poem,” that's when the legacy began

Like a book without a 1st 2nd or 3rd chapter
but of continuous prose without punctuation
deciphering Schoenfeld's watercolors
revealing//passionate//canvases of pure romance
in red//pale flesh//blue//with sky hues
numbering page after page of Miller's rapid scenery
amplifying the language of insects
and even the smallest encounters are painted
in grandiosity with a final transition
to Wheatfall's black & white subtlety & power
reminiscent of the strength in Van Gogh's
Wheat Field with Reaper and Sun

A lovely tribute. How you bring about an admiration in your words is effective. Well-penned. :-)

Ha, the Miller and the Beautiful Field and the Wheatfall - aren't they aptly named? Lovely inspiration too, and I wish I had a mother like yours!

What a wonderful tribute to your mother...and Claudia, Brian and Emmett--to all those who are your inspiration. I'm blessed to have a mother like yours. Though she has dementia now, her caregivers tell me she just sits there and reads my poetry (or perhaps stares at it) for hours.

Gorgeous Anthony. I couldn't help thinking you are your Mom's LIVING poem honoring all the creativity she taught, nurtured and flowed into you.

With the spark from our heavenly father, encouragement from your mama, and creative influence of other fine poets, i can see how you have metamorphosed into the strong poet you are today, Anthony...painting with words!

I want to express my profound surprise and most earnest thank you to you Anthony Desmond for setting to pen and paper my inclusion in your Metamorphosis composition. I imagine Claudia and Brian were taken by great surprise by this most precious honor and acknowledgement. I know I was. You sir are an amazing poet, whose style and themes set you apart with such distinction and limitless potential. If we have, and according to you we have, played a part in that, then we have represented poetry well. You have been and always will be my poetry friend. I look forward the dawning of your light in the realm of poetry. I've already picked out a rock to sit upon and gaze upward as you illuminate poetry with your light. Thank you, Anthony. Thank you.

What a great tribute to your influences! A wonderful work extolling the generosity in your soul and the inspiration given to you by your mentors. What a very good poem by a very fine poet. Kudos my friend!

Of course your life is an epic poem, just now blossoming, a fucking masterpiece starting with Chapter 4, since you have lived before, your wisdom a splash over from the cosmic spheres; so you do not need Freshman English--you were born a Junior, half way to the darkest & sweetest of truth before you were out of short pants, brother; loved your lines /like a book--of continuous prose without punctuation/. You do know that Cormac McCarthy write that way; fist bump. hip bump., big man.

i can relate as my mother has always been my greatest advocate as a savior truly for my life several times without restrainT and or weakness...

And nice! to see you honor the poets of the Dverse team here..that do beauty to words..and inspire me too!

Nah..i never think i will do any art..the computer at heart i am for years..but the poetry bug hit my mother in her 50's as she is a published poet...

i suppose the apple falls from the tree late as late is when apples fall for meaning..in life..not far from tree of being..simply being us!

And leaving the Microsoft editor for grammar and punctuation behind..!per Queen's English..IS truly creation activity to me!

A beautifully woven emotion & imagery here.

I have a feeling we might not start writing or keep it up without any encouragement. Great that your mother was the one to encourage you. I wonder whether she still reads what you write.

How wonderful that your mother is / was one who was one of your first supporters. Every poet should be as fortunate as this, but I would guess not many are.

So nice that you pay tribute to your favorite poets at dverse. It's especially nice that you thank your mother for recognizing your talent and supporting you. That's what good mothers do.

yes, she always gets 1st read; and she's brutally honest with her opinion, too... which is great. :)

It is amazing that a simple remark, compliment can do to encourage someone in life; and that life can turn on a dime - love that you wrote an ode to your mother, Anthony.

Appreciative opening, honoring the mother where it all began. Then tumbles forward from there, into creativity and passion. Nicely done.

My talented young friend, you always challenge, enlighten and inspire me with your work. I regret that I haven't been able to share my appreciation of you and your work as I used to, but on this day, with this piece, I'll dodge the bullets. Thank you, Anthony, for your fearless and generous way. ~ j

such a beautiful tribute. I don't quite now what it is, but there is this intense powerful feeling of love and gratitude in the open stanza that just makes me *sigh*.

I like that you give kudos to Claudia and Brian here...a generous sweetness. It sounds like you have a precious Mama. My Mom is my biggest fan too...she wants everyone to read what I write...embarrassing sometimes!
