Calla lilies black as the night sky
bring me to the bed
we once laid in
Your mouth grazes my back
like bison in the meadow
your nutrients seep
into the pores of my skin
as I lie in the afterglow
and you sleepwalk
into my dreams at 2am
awakening me
from these memories
bring me to the bed
we once laid in
Your mouth grazes my back
like bison in the meadow
your nutrients seep
into the pores of my skin
as I lie in the afterglow
and you sleepwalk
into my dreams at 2am
awakening me
from these memories

Well it sounds like a pleasant thing to be awakened from a dream by the one that was being dreamed about. Smiles!
hmm...reality or fantasy..it seems they mesh well together..
The image of the bison is so luxurious, and to have dream merging with reality.. that's a perfectly good reason to be awake a 2 AM
I was commenting to Mary about the veil growing thin at that time of morning, and how those lost passed might come visiting. Really like how you set this up, the use of the Bison.
Nice. This is a different kind of love poem. Sensual, sensitive and the melding of dreams and awakening are like love making.
Nice choice of prompt, sir, & a perfect illustration of your concept; short, sensual, dreamy; a different taxk for you. I, of course, prattle on for pages with my poem, but then, that's just me.
Dreams and reality coming together at apparently the perfect time...sensual without being blatant. Excellent and interesting prompt as well, Anthony!
Cool. >KB
I sense a sadness in this poem, as if she isn't there anymore, only a memory and a dream. Nice incorporation of 2 a.m. Peace, Linda
I think the calla lilies are funeral flowers. I'm picturing you collapsing into the bed after everyone has finally left your side. You're dreaming of her, and then you're awakened by her ghost.
I like this, Anthony! Great imagery and rendering of those moments when we live in that obscure territory between being asleep and being awake.
I love your brilliant use of language. The bit about "bisons" is superb.
Great images and thoughts
So deep and refreshing.
You always make me think and feel for poetry. Soul and powerful my friend.
:)
Gorgeous description here.
Beautiful...
Absolutely love the imagery in this. Very nice!
beautiful imagery tinged with sadness..
The past tense and the use of "once" in the first stanza set a nice scene for what appears to be a delightful memory. While I've never had a bison nibble my neck, I've hand fed a horse. It tickles. Probably about the same.
As if written to a nature Goddess!
Ah.. the Calla Lilies of a lonely soul.. reaching out and touching memories.. with all of sensual hold.. and the death of dreams do bring back.. the CALLa liLies Black...
very sensual. I love how you even gave this piece an aroma by opening with flowers.
subtle and sensual - a perfect poem to seduce a woman - ( keep away from my daughters :) )
So romantic. But sexy too. An evocation of real love.
mmmm...sensuous, yes; black cala lilies make it even more so..
Such an interesting prompt and and interesting poem in response. I am not sure how romantic the bison breath is but fun image.
I really enjoyed this prompt, Anthony, and you've captured the more magical moments of 2 AM...made me remember those! :0)
Oh, this gave me a great feeling of nostalgia. You have some excellent imagery here...very real!
Black calla lilies seem so mysterious. I like the intertwine of dreams, memories, wakefulness.
The key is all in the 3rd line, and it casts a shadow over all the beauty and longing..
Those dreams, contrasting with realities ~ How they come alive as calla lilies at night ~ Have a good week Anthony ~
Sleepwalk into dreams - I love the effect Anthony. Thank you for this unique prompt.
Romantic, dreamy and at the same time bringing one to reality ... I loved the contrast :-)
