Caught up on the latest gossip
Wearing the latest fashion trends
MP3 player shuffles through
The billboard top 40 dance tracks
The newest version of the iPhone is old news
From invariably probing the inbox
For a text you'll never receive
From a person you'll never love
But for now you're head over heels
And when you close your eyes
You imagine your kingdom
As an old school barber shop
Non-professional so
The only cut the barber knew
Involved a bowl & slightly rusted scissors
And the combo included
A close shave with an old knife

and the barber has a shell shock shake to his hand you notice as he brings the straight edge in...haha...oy...no way to keep up man and a whole lot of energy wasted in trying honestly...
Great contrast of old and new. Love that it's the only cut the barber knows.
"For a text you'll never receive

I really like that.
ooh, love the ending... it becomes harder and harder to keep up, which in turn makes us wish for the good old days that we then realize weren't that great, either.
great contrast here with really powerful imagery.
Sharply observed and love the kingdom of barbershop dream.
I too liked

well done
Tight mechanics in this one Anthony, and the images layered with meaning. Getting better every write, sir.
I often long for that simpler time, but you make it sound kinda dangerous.
Nice flow here from the modern frenzy into the yesteryear of the simple barber shop(where people spoke to each other instead of texting).
yup, i know this shallow person. see um walking around all the time, they just don't get it
Great weave of old and new. Yes, sometimes online love sends people over the top and yet the reality is, if they ever meet, they are so not attracted anymore. Loved the close shave with a rusty blade... Yikes...LOL Fabulous imagery.
The kingdom as a barber shop...interesting. Thinking about the barber shop I go to, I like that transition from new to old.
Sweeny Todd tweeting on his new Mac :D...
tight lines - sharp obs - blunt cut...
hi-top to fade -
sorted!
nice one AD
Nice write! I often think about the obsolete nature of technology and the world we live in. "But for now you're head over heels" - this line says so much.
Just a great write--great sense of the visual--
Yeah man- love the message in this- fallacies, all of it, yet i'm guilty of getting sucked into it too...I also got you talking about a contrast - between our dreams (or failure of) and the plastic world that simply doesn't contain those dreams....loving your words as always
Connection without direction, technology without intelligence. We're drowning in it. The barbershop kingdom for me shows how crude and archaic the needs addressed really are under the clickety bright mask.
Anthony...your singing to the choir! If not for all you awesome poets I've encountered, I'd trash it all and take that old rusty knife any day! (my tetanus is current...no fear!) Not sure how I'd look with a bowl cut though...there's a poem in that thought! Wicked weave, Sir Poet!
Nice write...technology influences our life...everyone wants to keep up and meanwhile some things are best untouched, the old fashioned way....
I love your brain.
my first visit here but don't think it will be my last; quite enjoyed the enigmatic style of poetry I found, lots of things to ponder ... I do so love that ... thanks.

Yeah, every step forward toward a supposed simpler life, makes me want to to go ten steps back... maybe I'm getting old???
The ending made me smirk......
ha..this is great anthony... sometimes we search for our kingdoms in the wrong places...def. have that longing for the real at times...
This twisted about my mind and i loved it
I love the time travel of this Anthony.
