Devil's Food

its like i saw the beautiful face of grief
in the naked image of the mirror
found solace over worn out shoes
with caked courage smeared on red bottoms
like velvet for footsteps
and fork-teeth for footprints,
a layer of arrogance covering
my sugar coated flesh
like salt on slave wounds
an across my back
raspberry blood drippings stain my ancestors
devouring another slice

I love the contradictions in this piece. It's so raw, yet beautiful.

like the contradiction of deliciousness and pain..perhaps they stand together because the exposing of pain and every move to justice tastes so sweet. Very interesting.

from the very start, you managed to put vivid images in my mind.
the last two lines put concrete images of people trying to find more, in the process blemishing themselves. Nicely done!

If stepping on fork-teeth, I'd sure walk like on velvet--grin!

You write really well, man--deep thoughts here.
Thank you!
