Sanity

If I didn't live in fear
       I'd give you my heart
        In your time of need
         But that'll only add weight
          To your chest

Though If I was afraid to die
I'd bathe in bleach and scrub
The pigment off my skin
Remove The Mark of Cain
Instead let me overdose

Take what I won't give
 So I can't miss
    What I can't have
       Overdose
     On my nude hush
   My bare intentions
 My naked hue

if i didn't i would... and what would it do to the other... sometimes we hold back because of fear what it does with us or with the people around us... i know this feel..you penned it down well sir...

nice anthony...its a risk to give ourselves away, sadly that fear holds us back from a lot of things, and think of all we miss...and they miss, because we do....

That first stanza reads like the power of a bullet expelled from a gun. Pushes the remainder of the poem. I thought the ending dissipated, leaving the ending open-ended. But then again, that's what a bullet does after traveling down range. Another excellent write, Anthony. You've got to publish my friend. I find your poetry noteworthy.

fear can destroy sanity. The way you open and close this poem makes me read it again and again...really beautiful, emotional poem.

Love how deeply your poetry is progressing Anthony. I've been in and out for a while as you know. I loved all of this but it makes more sense to me to read the second stanza as If I weren't afraid - since it seems to me that act might be killing not only physically but emotionally. The rest of the poem flows naturally for me. Well done.

The third stanza - it just wins me over.

I like the fragmentation of the stanzas on the page. It evokes fractured thoughts. But all of them tinged with regret. All of them wishing it was different. Wishing to make a difference.

strength, sensitivity, vulnerability...I sense them all and they come through beautifully brave! Nicely shared.

I think if I were in need I'd read this and realize, I'll be fine. And I mean that in a complimentary way

Sometimes it's hard to give all that we have, and sometimes we think we are giving when we are just pursuing our own selfish needs. The fragments of thought here give a sense of trying to work things out.

Life, being honest, baring all to someone else, confusion... all laid out here. Wonderful.

I look at this poem and think of the fragmented thoughts and reactions we endure to maintain our conception of sanity. It's personal for each of us but something we do to level out, to turn all the craziness away or reprocess it to stabilize. Good write that made me think.
