From
the moment we met
I knew your bones were made of paper
I knew your bones were made of paper
Worn
so thin you could swallow me whole
But I am not afraid
My illicium still shines brightly
But I am not afraid
My illicium still shines brightly
I
am foolish enough to remove my teeth
Solely
based on the beauty of your mouth
As
I showcase the persistence of an anglerfish
Unsure
if your past has caused
A
rare sexual dimorphism: a crescent-shaped mouth
Of
fang-like teeth between your legs
Sharpened
like a razor to a strop

illicium ...cool word use for flower....
love the first 2 lines of the second stanza too...
the allusion to the angler fish as well....
damn though, i am gonna have nightmares tonight
of that fang imagery....yikes!!!!!
Thanks Bri... illicium is also another name for the growth that comes from the Angler's head :)
Intriguing title and ending imagery is just ghoulishly frightening ~ Good one Anthony ~
Razor sharp teeth between the legs could be a huge turn off I imagine...a modern day twist to the chastity belt perhaps:)
Interesting piece, Anthony. Your writing is always unique.
You charmer, you, entering the stream of consciousness as a romantic, a smidge of love sonnet, and then WHAM, exit stage left, dickless. great job on the prompt.
oh dang it... what images ... the paper thin bones and the fear of being swallowed and then that whole last stanza of course.... oh heck...well done anthony
wonderful take on the prompt.
Very unexpected and frightening ending, Anthony!
Oh, dear, don't think I want to know the same people that you do...!
Sinister and creepy take on the prompt - very well done. I knew your bones were made of paper... hmmm, have to sit and ponder on this one, I like it a lot.
Sorry, that Unknown above was me, Blogger doens't always appreciate my comments...
What an imagery here.-. and yes I cross my legs carefully after that last stanza-- anglerfishes are real monsters ... the lure and the trap.
very cool take - angler fish with baited breath :) so strange and then the final lines - even stranger
Yikes!
What a twisty piece of art this is. It shows a brilliant mind!
Unfortunately I must have reached the age of non-understanding - I did na ken your poem, dear friend. It's me not you -- for sure.
Different. Going forth where others fear to tread. Well done.
this is so so good, "From the moment we met
I knew your bones were made of paper
Worn so thin you could swallow me whole" - what imagery, and the harshness of "I am foolish enough to remove my teeth" just tops it all off. A multitude of lures operating on different levels of enticement. nice work!
