Chapter One

Dig spoken word? take a listen...

Her heart was like a Polaroid camera
Old fashioned take her home to mama
Kinda love but instead
Of embracing her ambient light
They keep her in the dark
And never bothered to see her pretty picture
Go figure; she's not commercialized nor modernized
Like Retro Jordans for midnight release
She's more of an umbrella in the pouring rain
Searching for sunshine
Like a widow who's at her peak

But will they ever know? No.

In the age where Instagram on the iPhone 6
can replace a true photographer's weapon of choice
And the poet's mentioning of writing love
Letters gets a roll of the eye
I'm steady asking myself why should I even try?

Why even... when

The, “if you ain't fuckin',
then you ain't fuckin' with me”
State of mind is the reason why
Romance is dire need of resuscitation

So very much truth in that .. The build-up to the simple truth how technology has become a shell that can't protect us but shield us from the romance.. Wicked good :-)

will they ever no...no...sadly...what brings us together can also keep us apart for selling us the superficial...solid rhythm in this man....i will come back and listen as i cant access the audio from school....

According to statistics, more and more people will meet online so they had better learn how to engage in significant romance. My brother met his wife online. Apparently romance grew between those two.

Romance and relationships in general have definitely changed in recent years. It seems if someone does not use 'instagram on iPhone 6' they are behind the times. At one time the polaroid was the most up to date thing, and now it is instagram. I guess we all have to keep up or find ourselves left behind in the dust.

I like the passion in this Anthony. Enjoyed listening to you recite it. You have so many good lines here, images that linger. The last stanza's anger is superb.

I like how you painted her Anthony, old fashioned romantic, steady and sure as an umbrella searching for sunshine ~ I am happy you like Nick's artwork ~

Love the 'Romance is dire need of resuscitation' and the tendency of replacement the real art photo by modern tech shops is so real....~ very passionate write and reading!

Truly a wonderful piece of poetry.

Your words scream passion and imagination.

It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.

Oh those irritating teenage rolling eyes!
Love from another back number!

Is there even a shred of humanity extant within the cyber clouds of ever upgrading technology? The iphone6+ is a perfect example, nearly as big as as an ipad, too big for a pocket, yet too small to use as a notebook or lap top; WTF prompts folks to have to own one? Peer pressure, perversion, insanity? I pine for that dime that used to make phone calls in booths; just saying.

Love the message and strong imagery, Anthony. And those last two lines hit hard.

everything comes back around... i thought you would like this prompt

Oh! I especially liked the way to recite the poem. It makes it stronger, it gives it an edge of tiredness, anger, frustration. Smart and true messages in this poem. I especially like the last verse.

Well, I dig spoken word and you nailed that one. Where has romance gone? Anyone can hook up but, where does love reside..perhaps it just hides in the shadows of reality.

Your voice brought this to life. Passion, anger, umbrage against imitation. Great job

Fantastic reading ! Well done

There's a lot of truth to that. Romance has certainly changed in our "modern" age...I fully believe that our parents' and grandparents' generations were a lot happier than the current generation...even without being "modern"

Ah.. the joys of oral tradition both verbal and non-verbal in flesh and blood.. are drifting away fast in torrent of cyberflow...

It's why I dance wherever I go.. if all I did is stay online.. my soul and heart would surely shrivel up and die too..

Non-verbal communication is most of flesh and blood communication, anyway, in ways of bright eyes, soft and hard moves of human expression...

And to meet a dance enthusiast here and now.. is always better than a foot forward and an eye diverted from another human being....

To connect in flesh and blood in human ways is to live..

And to not.. is simply to die a human life...:)

meaning takes energy and attention. Could she be someone's Helen of Troy ?

I find the idea of cyber relationships terribly depressing ! About as much fun as keeping goldfish !

Oh, oh, oh, just love this one! Hard for romance and relationships to flourish when technology keeps us so separated...

truthful words...time for introspection..very nicely done

Reading this aloud made it so very much more effective, Anthony. I felt the urgency behind it, the frustration. So good.

Love those two lines "She's more of an umbrella in the pouring rain
Searching for sunshine."

I met someone online once...now I am married to him. He is much more fun than a goldfish. I think we have to distinguish between a cyber relationship and a simple connection online that leads to a regular face to face relationship. :)
I do worry that technology is hindering the social skills of our young people and wonder if their children will know how to make eye contact and converse without texting, etc.

Great read and the audio was a bonus...great to hear this piece so intensely expressed. The technology issue is something I feel very strongly about. We have lost touch....with touch. Society is led by gadgets and we have traded creativity, emotion and acts of kindness for screen time.

yes, yes it is. loved hearing the audio, too ~

And that is WHY you must keep trying, must keep writing poems, must keep on resuscitating romance.....before it dies away completely. Loved this!

"She is more of an umbrella in the pouring rain" lovely. Your poetry will keep romance alive. Cheers!

I had read this before, but it was even more delightful to read it again. I can count on you to not give up, keep writing, romance depends on it.
