And look like some rock listenin' emo motherfuckas

You got this published? Are you kidding me? This is sad. This is pathetic. By someone who holds themselves so high you sure managed to make yourself look pretty stupid. This is not poetry. This is not art. Were you trying to make yourself seem hard, strong, smart? It did not show.

@AmandaFlowz You obviously don't understand this poem... The ignorance you've displayed is exactly what this poem is about.

I respect the fact that you don't give a fuck and just say it. That's what it takes.

Nobody knows the struggle better than those in its midst. You show the emperor has no clothes.

wow, this is powerful stuff...puts you right in minds of the differing sides...ignorance is so sad

Anthony! Where do I begin? This is harsh and gritty, and will no doubt offend more than a few who are unable to have an original thought...the pic alone raised my eyebrows, let alone the ensuing rant. It totally offends the conditioned, PC side of my brain, but the truth seeker within screams YELL IT LOUDER! An awesome freaking start to #openlinknight! There's bound to be some discussion here...write on!

I hope some people get that you just blew up a word and it's concepts from both sides of its boundaries. Heard it a lot from both those sides my whole life. And sometimes you have to shake these folks really, really hard to get their attention. You shook 'em, AD, shook 'em good.
Left me breathing hard, young friend. Keep pounding. - J

and the thing is we are living in the same world, ok, worlds inside worlds, but still the same world...pain is pain, struggle is struggle, misunderstandings, refusals to try to see, to listen...judgement just because...that's how the smaller worlds maintain their bubble.

powerful writing Anthony...thank you.

So powerful, disconcerting, yes, uncomfortable, yes. But lately I am of the mindset that we spend way too much time being politically correct, and far too little telling the truth, being real. Your voice does both.

Reminds me of being a kid and hearing my white relatives talk like the first half and being totally mystified, then growing up and hearing the same thing bizarro-mirror reversed like the second half from some gangster types, similarly puzzled--but that's how a lot of minds seem to (not) work. A very sharp, piercingly sharp, and on target poem, Anthony. Keep doing it.

Wow...powerful stuff. Good to see you shaking things up! Poetry can change the world...I'm pretty sure yours can. Keep writing what's on your heart...it shines through..

Powerful and raw. Sadly, ignorance still runs strong. Thanks for sharing and speaking out.

Good for you...brave write...really impressed..i can't imagine how dreadful it is to live with such prejudice, ignorance, & all the culturally defined identity pressure/s from both 'sides' - i imagine it could be pretty bloody frustrating and painful..your voice is cutting through here..

great piece of poetry. amazing flow. i would love to hear this read by you just to hear where you put the emphasis, your intonations etc.

could you do a recording and post it on this page?

@zongrik ah, I would if I had something to record my voice on!

No holds barred and acutely drawn, a work of art. I have that dreadful knot in the pit of my stomach. Have you ever read Joseph L. Graves Jr.? He's a biologist: 'Most Americans still believe that there is some biological legitimacy to our socially constructed racial categories. However, our modern scientific understanding of human genetic diversity flies in the face of all of our social stereotypes.'

Lisa said...

Hi. I read it to a very nice pounding rhythm.

lots of anger, lots of frustration, lots of power, and lots of empowerment... felt very real Anthony... can't directly relate to the detail, but can certainly relate to the essence...

Mark Kerstetter said...

On the one hand I'm reluctant to add to the chorus of white faces shouting "Great Job!" but on the other hand I'm glad to see you at the pub. The racial problems in our country will never even begin to be solved until we (blacks and whites esp) can speak to each other straight. This poem is a step in that direction.

Doesn't matter what color we are, what language we speak... we're all hypocrites one way or another. You brought this full circle... albeit dragging mine by the strength of yours. I appreciate the way you responded to ignorance.

Ann LeFlore said...

Wow this is amazing so full of anger, power, and frustration. You say it how it is and I like this very much no holding back. Good write

A very harsh and rude opening but you drove your point in the end...too good.

Wow! stunning. Hate rant. Dude, you poem moves me. Don't know as I'd the 'guts' to write something similar...it's raw and 'out there.' in your face.
Effect? your poem got it.
thanks for sharing.

The reality of the poem saddened me. But the truth is just that whether you say it or not. I understand it completely but still a hard pill to swallow.
