I live by the word
Of organized noise
Heavy sound waves tremble
As white paint
Splattered in my face
I leave notes on my journey
For others to read
I don't need to know
What I'll always remember
I save a rock
That looks like crumbling
Flesh toned brick
My keepsake opens up
In the heart of Jerusalem
Under hot sun rays
Passing by Stanford's
Boy on a Camel
All my heroes are dead
A piece of
Who I was
Lies in them
It makes us
Who I am
My targets are precise
I aim like daggers
Looking to pierce
And take for
Future reference
My naked skin will be
Uniquely mounted
On every pendulum
When I return home

dang..tight last stanza..and leaving notes on the journey for others to read..that's what we do...in different forms and ways, always a piece of us..
the mounting of your skin makes for a tight visual...nice hip hop flow to this...full onf vivid imagery and truth man...
I don't need to know
What I'll always remember
yeah you got that.
ha, those were my two favorite lines as well...
i like the rhythm here, the sense of travel, and "all my heroes are dead"...
this makes me sad.
powerful piece, as always!
I'm liking this one a lot, AD. I happen to like the three lines before the ones folks seem to be flashing on:
Splattered in my face
I leave notes on my journey
For others to read
We do. It's what we do in this cool and silly game of chronicling Life for ourselves and others.
And you're doing it very well and have a great long time to do more. Glad I was all in on the ground floor, dude!!

Always a pleasure to read your work. So many unexpected turns of phrase.
Whenever I read "flesh toned" I'm glad if I can see the author's picture so I know what tone that is. ;-)
"I live by the word / Of organized noise" ... had me right from the get-go. "I don't need to know / What I'll always remember" ... damn. That's all the analysis I have for that one, Anthony. Damn. Powerful as always.
All my heroes are dead
A piece of
Who I was
Lies in them
Maybe I am in a melancholy mood--but these are the lines that stood out for me--great write--
I love the way this gradually builds, the way the images become more demanding, the thought more intense, the puzzle more complex--especially love the conclusion. Fine writing, Anthony--one of my instant faves of yours.
All of your heroes are dead? Is that because you killed them through building them up to a status they just couldn't achieve or because modern day heroes just don't exist?
Ace poem as usual.
Like Aaron, I wondered why you have no modern-day heroes. "A piece of who I was lies in them" Interesting that you used the past tense here. And then, "it makes us who I am" - so what you were comes full circle to what you are. I like the way you manipulate the past, present and future in this poem. Strong write.
My targets are precise
I aim like daggers
Looking to pierce
And take for
Future reference
Yeah Baby! - this is simultanous blast - the continuum as seen thru the lens of the one eyed watcher as he flicks thru the mind of a cycloptic mad man! - lol
DA BomB!
Strong poetry here. This really strikes me:
All my heroes are dead
A piece of
Who I was
Lies in them
It makes us
Who I am
We do take a lot from those we have known who are no longer with us, and so many of these pieces DO help us become who we are. Your words zing and burn deep. Impressive.
Hello,
I enjoyed this one you are able to pull together a nice write and I enjoyed this part:
All my heroes are dead
A piece of
Who I was
Lies in them
Yes...A piece of who I was lies in them...that is the line that pierced my heart and brought the whole piece together for me...the finish? Brutal! Amazing write!
unique AND THOUGHT PROVOKING...SO ENJOYABLE
Nice! My favorite part,
"I leave notes on my journey
For others to read
I don't need to know
What I'll always remember"
-Totally reminds me of something my favorite English professor would say. Love it :)
Love how this piece swings forth and back.
"All my heroes are dead
A piece of
Who I was
Lies in them
It makes us
Who I am"
Liked these lines best.
"All my heroes are dead
A piece of
Who I was
Lies in them
It makes us
Who I am"
To imagine all that came before, and all that ever will be, connecting inside of us to make us who we are. I find both comfort and a sense of belonging to the infinite in that thought. Well penned.
Amazing piece Anthony. Strong from start to finish, but from My targets to the last word, I really don't think a poem can get much more powerful than that. Great read. Thanks
Love the Stanford reference and 'all my Hero's are dead'.... This just had fire- like you're telling us that you are lining us up ready to shoot us with your words, sharp as knives - this was pure venomous passion encompassing all of your influences and loves. fantastic
The first nine lines are incredible poetry. Your talent is on full display. Sweet is its poetic voice Anthony.
Very kewl write, thoroughly enjoyed
The depth is astounding, that you could pull it all into such a tight write. Absolutely love the ending stanza. Power on display here.
Good poem--I liked the symbols in there, how they related to the title, and the nice, tight flow.
